If you want to discover an authentic corner of the Lower Guadalquivir and you are in Seville or near the city, take note of Los Palacios y Villafranca.
It is a municipal agricultural, hospitable and very well connected; perfect for eating well —the tomato from Los Palacios is delicious— and to combine town, marshes and birds in the same day.
And here is a guide so you know where it is, how to get there, what to see, when to go, what to eat and what to do around the area to get the most out of your visit to Los Palacios y Villafranca in Seville.
Where it is and how to get There
The town is about 30 km south of Seville, in the Bajo Guadalquivir region and it is best to come by car or bus. There is no train station in the municipality; the nearest one is Utrera —about 12 km away— and it does not have an airport either.
By car you have direct access from the A-4 —via exit 558— and also from the AP-4 —via exit 23— in the direction of Cádiz. From Cádiz or from Jerez, the entrance is the same but in a northerly direction. The municipality is also crossed by the N-IV and the A-362 towards Utrera.
Without a car, the easiest thing to do is to take a bus, specifically the M-134 line that connects Seville-Los Palacios or one of the lines of the Samar Group: the L-74 or the L-77. The key departure points from Seville are Avenida de Portugal, Bellavista and Hospital de Valme, among others.
A taxi could cost you between €37.80 with the normal rate and €45 with the night rate, weekends and holidays.

If this is your first time here, it is best to start with the Parroquia Mayor de Santa María la Blanca, the oldest temple in the municipality and a good thread to pull to understand the place. The Virgen de las Nieves, the patron saint, is the image most loved by the locals. It is worth entering for the atmosphere and the historical value of the building, which was built under the patronage of the Ducal House of Arcos.
Add to your route the Church of the Sacred Heart and the surroundings of the Plaza Miguel Murube Galán, in the upper part of the historic center. The climb is short and pleasant and gives you another perspective of the municipality: whitewashed facades, wrought iron bars, patios and ceramic decorations. Take the opportunity to enter a neighborhood store where, in addition to souvenirs, you will find products from the garden.
And if you go to the outskirts —you should— you will find the typical olive-growing estates, such as La Mejorada Baja. There are more than 200 between Seville and Cádiz and some of them can be visited.
